WORLD ALZHEIMER'S DAY - NEVER TOO EARLY, NEVER TOO LATE

According to findings from the 2020 #Dementia in India report, there are approximately 5.3 million elderly people in India living with dementia and this figure is anticipated to climb to 14 million by 2050. Recently, Professor Jinkook Lee and her associates conducted a study revealing that dementia affects 7.4% of adults aged 60 and above in India, implying that approximately 8.8 million Indians are presently dealing with dementia. This surpasses the earlier estimate of 5.3 million found in the Dementia in India 2020 Report. Alzheimer's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative condition that impacts the brain, resulting in memory loss, cognitive deterioration, shifts in behavior, difficulties with verbal and written communication, impaired judgment, alterations in mood and personality and confusion regarding time and place.   World Alzheimer's Day is observed annually on September 21st, serves as a global platform to educate, to support those affected by dementia, and advocat

E-WASTE MANAGEMENT AND CIRCULAR ECONOMY

Image
According to a recent report by the UN Global E-Waste Monitor Report, India ranks third globally in terms of e-waste production, with only China and the United States ahead of it. In the year 2021-22, there was a substantial increase in the amount of electronic waste (e-waste) in India, reaching a total of 1.6 million tonnes. Among these, 65 cities within India contributed to over 60% of the overall e-waste production, while 10 states were responsible for 70% of the total e-waste generated.   This situation appears deeply concerning. The excessive generation of electronic waste (e-waste) has the potential to profoundly impact human lives. We are living in the age of technology and as a result- a multitude of technical and electronic items are produced. With the passage of time, these items tend to break down and become outdated. Moreover, technology is advancing rapidly, causing items to become obsolete quickly. Consequently, these items that are no longer useful are often discarded

BIOTECHNOLOGY IN INDIA - OPPORTUNITIES AND PROSPECTS

Image
Biotechnology is the fusion of biology and technology where biological systems, living organisms or their components to engineer and produce a wide range of products. #Biotechnology in various forms has existed for thousands of years, although the modern field of biotechnology as we know it today has developed over the last century or so. From the ancient time, humans have been using fermentation to produce food and beverages like bread, beer, cheese and making different types of ointments and medicines. This process involves the use of microorganisms to convert sugars into other substances. In the mid-20th century, there has been seen the fast development of techniques like DNA sequencing and the discovery of the structure of #DNA by James Watson and Francis Crick in 1953. These discoveries laid the groundwork for modern biotechnology. The Human Genome Project, completed in 2003, marked a major milestone in the study of genomics. It provided a complete map of the human genome, opening

WHY IS INDIA SO MUCH INTO SPACE?

Image
India has successfully launched its solar mission #Aditya-L1 recently. Just before it, #Chandrayaan-3 mission was launched by #ISRO. India's #Mangalyaan-1 mission has already shown its excellence to the world. Apart from this, ISRO is planning to launch #Ganganyaan-1 and #Shukrayaan-1 space missions in the near future. ISRO has shown its power to the entire world by launching one successful mission after another. But India's consistent series of space missions has us all asking - what are the reasons for this unending series of India’s space missions? Let’s try to understand in this article: Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) or Mangalyaan-1 was India's first interplanetary mission launched on November 5th 2013 using PSLV-C25 rocket by ISRO.  India became the 1st Asian country and 4th country worldwide to launch this mission to Mars. It was a great achievement for India because MOM reached the Martian orbit in its 1st attempt. It was successfully activated even after 7 years. Now I
